What era is Pokemon Legends Arceus set in?
Pokemon Legends Arceus is due to be released at the end of January 2022, serving as a “prequel” to Diamond and Pearl.
Set in a bygone era of the Sinnoh region, the game appears to be based on Japan in the 19th century.
In a region called Hisui, the game takes place long before the events in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and its remakes.
According to the developers, the objective of the game is to create Hisui’s first Pokédex.
“To catch wild Pokémon, players can study the Pokémon’s behaviours, sneak up to them, then throw Poké Balls,” the Pokémon Company said.
“Players can also battle wild Pokémon with their ally Pokémon.”
Unlike previous games, players enter battle by throwing the Poké Ball holding their ally Pokémon near a wild Pokémon.
The shakeup is designed to make the game more immersive for players, according to the Pokémon Company.
What other games have Pokemon characters been in?
One of the most popular games from the Pokemon franchise is Pokemon GO, initially released in 2016.
The free mobile game uses GPS to locate and capture Pokemon, which appear as if in the real world.
Pokemon Snap is another fun one – a first-person photography game, based on a 1999 Nintendo 64 original.
Some of the Pokemon characters also appear in Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros, a crossover fighting game series featuring characters from various Nintendo universes.
