Pokemon Centre Japan unveils life-size Spheal plushie

POKÉMON Centre Japan has revealed new additions to the store, including a life-size Spheal plushie.

Alongside a number of new card sets for its Trading Card Game, the shop also revealed a new life-size Spheal plush.

True to the games, our boy is 80cm tall, in line with standard Spheal size.

The length and width are a bit longer due to his flippers and tail.

Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your desire for realism) the Spheal plush is lighter than even the smallest of Spheal.

The lightest Spheal on record weighs 4st, while this soft friend weighs just over 1st. It’s still quite a weight in your toybox.

Spheal has also been made using a cooling, moisture-wicking micro-polyester material.

This is a popular fabric in Japan as it remains cold to the touch even in hot Japanese summers.

It makes sense that Spheal would be cool to the touch as a dual water and ice type ‘mon.

Spheal was released as part of the third generation of Pokémon, and has been featured in every generation of games since.

In recent games, you could see Spheal rolling along the icey plains with generation four starter Piplup in New Pokémon Snap.

It also had a starring role in Pokémon: Legends Arceus. They can be found rolling along the beach of Cobalt Coastlands.

Spheal are not afraid of humans and will happily roll up to the player for food.

A Spheal is also part of one side quest where a mischievous boy rolls off down a hill and you have to chase it to the bottom.

To catch your own Spheal you will need to hand over ¥49,500/£300/$350.

Unfortunately, you will also need a friend in Japan willing to ship over the giant round friend, as the Pokémon Centre only ships inside the country.

This is not the first time the Pokémon Company has designed and sold life-size ‘mons.

Custom made life-size Lucario plush are available to order. While you can purchase your plush today you have to wait until February for it to be ready to ship.

While the Lucario plush is recommended for kids age six and up, Spheal caters to a more mature audience and is only recommended to those 15 and over.
