Players slam ‘disappointing’ The Last of Us PC port

GAMERS have slammed a recent PC release of The Last of Us Part 1, complaining of major bugs, long load times, and performance issues.

The Last of Us Part 1 is a remake of 2013’s The Last of Us, remade in the engine used for the game’s PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 sequel.

At the time of release, the remake received glowing reviews from critics and players alike, with many calling it a masterpiece.

Unfortunately, the PC port of the game has not been received quite as well, with many on digital games marketplace Steam complaining of multiple issues.

One Steam commenter said: “Standing in the same spot, in a small room, just rotating the camera will produce severe stutter, making the camera movement very unpleasant”.

Stutter is when a game freezes for a short moment, typically when a lot is happening on-screen, and can be very frustrating for players.

Many players have also complained about shaders loading, which is a one-time process the first time a player boots up the game.

A Steam commenter said: “I waited for almost 2.5 hours for the game to build shaders while crashing in the main menu every 5 or so minutes”.

The long wait time before the gameplay has even started is a particular issue for Steam buyers, since the ability to easily refund a game ends after two hours of playtime.

Steam’s refund policy allows buyers to instantly refund any game that has less than two hours of playtime and was purchased two weeks ago or less.

In addition to the issues mentioned above, thousands of players complained about poor performance, visual glitches, and crashes in the game.

There are currently over 5000 reviews of the game on Steam, and almost 4000 of those reviews are negative, making it one of Sony’s worst-rated games on the platform.

Sony has been porting its PlayStation games to PC a lot over the last few years, with games like God of War and Spider-Man both being received well.

Notably, no reviews for the PC version of The Last of Us Part 1 have been published by critics, as review codes for the game were not given to press prior to release.
