NINTENDO has announced its plans for new hardware to its investors.
In an earnings call, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa talked about the company’s plans following a significant drop in sales.
Nintendo wants several consoles in every home.
The Nintendo Switch reached its peak in 2021, with sales reaching almost 30million units.
It has tailed off since then, which is understandable as the Switch enters its seventh year.
Despite the drop, the Nintendo Switch continues to outsell PlayStation and Xbox even though it’s an older console.
A statement released by Nintendo claims that its strategy is the reason for the console’s success.
It reads: “We try to not only put one system in every home, but several in every home, or even one for every person.”
It is rumoured that Nintendo was developing a new console that will succeed the Switch.
Known by fans as the Switch 2, many suspected that it would be released in time for the holiday season of 2023.
However, this seems not to be the case, as Furukawa revealed to investors the company’s plans for the next financial year.
As reported by Bloomberg, Furukawa said in the call that no new or upgraded hardware is factored into Nintendo’s annual forecast.
This means the earliest we should expect a successor to the Switch is after April 2024.
Most likely, we will not see a Switch 2 until the holiday period of 2024, as this is when consoles are most commonly released.
They are often launched just a few months before Christmas to encourage people to give them as gifts.
It is still likely that the Switch 2 is still on the horizon, but that its release will be later than previously expected.
