New Mario game is currently in the works confirms Shigeru Miyamoto

SUPER Mario Odyssey was the last time we played with the portly plumber, but it appears a new game is in the works.

Nintendo has been working on a number of Mario-related projects, but the last Mario game released in 2017.

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has said how excited he is for the new project
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that Nintendo is working on Mario games.

Since then, no mainline games have been released, but Mario has appeared in a number of other projects.

In gaming, we have received a number of new Mario Kart 8 tracks via the new DLC.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is also on the horizon, with an all-star cast including Chris Pratt and Jack Black.

Most recently, Nintendo opened a new addition to Universal Studios in Hollywood, in the form of Super Nintendo Land.

There are two other Super Nintendo Lands in Japan, with a further two planned for Singapore and Orlando.

Mario plays a huge part in the theme park, and to celebrate the launch, gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto gave a few precious interviews.

Speaking to IGN, Miyamoto confirmed that a new Mario game is in the works, after he was asked why one isn’t being released alongside the launch of the theme park and movie.

He says: “We’re always working on Mario, so when we get to a time where we can share information, we’ll certainly do so.”

Nintendo clearly doesn’t want to reveal anything about the game just yet, but there are always high expectations for a mainline Mario game.

Miyamoto changes up a number of mechanics with each Mario game, but many parts of the formula remain the same.

Each game in the series has a strong focus on the gameplay while being light on the story, and Miyamoto confirmed that this is by design.

He explained: “For me, the starting story is how to make the gameplay fun, and that’s how I begin thinking about and creating a game.”

As for what Miyamoto could see Mario doing next, he remarked: “Maybe we can send Mario to Jupiter.”
