The news emerged from two Fortnite “data miners”, who scan the game’s code for upcoming features, skins and more.
Writing on Twitter on Monday, Hypex and Shiina both confirmed that James would imminently become a playable character.
According to Hypex, the skin will pay homage to James’ nickname among basketball fans, King James (it’s also his Twitter username).
The leaker added that players can earn rewards by completing King’s Bling quests. Apparently, items will become “more gold” as you finish quests.
Completing them all gives you access to a slider that lets you select the level of visible gold in the items.
It’s not clear precisely when the Los Angeles Lakers legend will arrive on Epic Games’ hugely popular shooter.
James will star in “Space Jam: A New Legacy”, which hits theatres and HBO Max on July 16.
It’s likely that the skin will join Fortnite to around then to help promote the film.
The 36-year-old will become the latest global sport superstar to become a playable character in the game.
England national football team captain Harry Kane made his way to Fortnite last month.
Alongside Germany star Marco Reus, the Lions’ goal machine was added as an Icon Series skin to mark the start of Euro 2020.
Earlier this year, footie icon Neymar got his own set of outfits, quests and rewards.
