A strong Wi-Fi connection is crucial for gamers, especially when playing on the PlayStation 5. Slow internet speeds can mean the difference between victory and defeat in a match. Luckily, a Wi-Fi expert on TikTok has shared a simple trick to boost a PS5's internet speeds, and it won't cost you a penny.
The key is to change your network frequencies
TikToker @cynthiaisdead claims that this clever hack can triple your internet speeds on the PS5. In her video clip, she shows how her connection strength increased from 105.4mbps/7.1mbps to 334mbps/11.1mbps in just a few minutes after making a simple settings change.
Open the door to higher speeds
To try this hack yourself, follow these steps:
- Go to your PS5's Settings and open the Network option.
- Underneath the Connection Status tab, you'll find another Settings option.
- Select Settings again and click Set Up Internet Connection.
- A menu will pop up on the right hand side. Hover over your home network.
- In this menu, select Wi-Fi Frequency Bands.
- You will be given the option to change your network frequencies.
- By default, the PS5's Network settings are set to Automatic.
- Change it to the 5Ghz option and click OK.
If this doesn't work for you and your PS5 says it doesn't support the switch to 5Ghz, it will automatically revert back to the Automatic setting. In that case, you can try using an Ethernet cable to connect your PS5 directly to your Wi-Fi router. Alternatively, you can move your router closer to the console, but make sure it is away from any objects that may interfere with the Wi-Fi signal, such as mirrors, microwaves, smart speakers, and fridges.
