The Omens of Tyranny update introduces a new enemy faction, the Illuminate, adding a fresh challenge for players. Alongside this, a new warbond named Urban Legends was launched, offering weapons and armor tailored to combat the Illuminate threat.
Exciting New Features
The Urban Legends Warbond, akin to a battle pass in other live service games, presents players with exclusive content. Unlike traditional battle passes, the warbond does not have a time limit, allowing players to redeem rewards as they progress by earning medals in-game.
Player Numbers Surge
Following the announcement of the Omens of Tyranny update and the release of the Urban Legends Warbond, Helldivers 2 witnessed a surge in player counts on Steam, reaching a peak of nearly 133,324 concurrent players. The game's popularity has continued to grow steadily since the update.
Overcoming Controversy
In May 2024, Helldivers 2 faced a setback when PlayStation required PC players to sign up for a free PlayStation Network account. This decision was met with backlash, leading to refunds for players in regions where PSN accounts were not accessible. However, Sony reversed this requirement, allowing PC players to enjoy the game without the need for a PSN account.
