THERE are 33 Nornir chests in God of War Ragnarök, and finding each will reward you with an upgrade to either your health or your rage.
An Idunn Apple will increase your health, while a Horn of Blood Mead extends your rage.
This is a Nornir chest
Some of them can be quite difficult to find and open, but if you’re hoping to take part in some of God of War’s trickier challenges, such as the Muspelheim Combat Trials, then you’ll want to pick them up.
Here’s our guide on where to find all the Nornir Chests in God of War Ragnarök.
Nornir Chests God of War Ragnarök: Aurvangar Wetlands
Nornir Chest 1 – Idunn Apple
When you first reach the Aurvangar Wetlands, you will find a puzzle with a rotating wooden wheel.
Throw your axe at the seal on the right of the chest to break it. The next seal can be found on an island behind it.
For the third seal you need to freeze the nearby geyser, and use it to grapple up to the higher platform. The seal is near a tree.
Nornir Chest 2 – Horn of Blood Mead
This chest is on a beach to the northwest, hidden by an alcove you have to row under.
Defeat the enemies in the area first to make opening the chest easier.
There is another chest here containing the Deadly Obsidian Handles, which will increase your strength by +4.
Freeze the geyser near the Nornir Chest to reveal a rotating pillar with a rune on it.
Use your axe to rotate it so that it is the same as the first symbol on the chest.
Climb up to a platform near the chest, where the next pillar is and rotate this to match the second symbol.
Drop down behind the chest for the final pillar, which needs to be turned to match the third symbol.
Nornir Chests God of War Ragnarök: Bay of Bounty
Nornir Chest 1 – Idunn Apple
Head to Dragon Beach in the Bay of Bounty. Here you need to freeze the geyser behind the chest to reveal a statue you need to break.
Opposite the dragon statue, near the shore, there is another geyser to freeze, which will show you the second seal to smash.
The final seal is behind the dragon statue. Go down onto the beach until you can see the back of the seal, and throw your axe to break it.
Nornir Chest 2 – Horn of Blood Mead
On the chest to the left is a torch you need to light. Aim at it with your blades and hold R2 to light it.
Follow the circle right, away from the chest, to find two barrels. Breaking them with sonic arrows will show you the second torch.
In the corner opposite the chest is the third torch behind an iron fence. Stand on the raised wooden platform, across from it and throw your axe at the explosive jar.
Nornir Chest 3 – Idunn Apple
Just north of the Bay of Bounty, a third Nornir Chest can be found on Alberich Island. To unlock it, you need to hit three bells quickly.
The first is behind the chest. The second is hidden behind a gate opposite the chest. Raise it just before you hit it, by throwing your axe at the board to the left.
The third bell is on the other side of the wooden structure. Fire a sonic arrow at the glowing spot on the pillar to make it fall down.
Nornir Chests God of War Ragnarök: Jarnsmida Pitmines
Nornir Chest 1 – Horn of Blood Mead
Before the mines in another Nornir Chest. The first torch to open it is to the left.
Drop down here, and freeze the water trough above the second torch before lighting it.

Nornir Chest 2 – Fortitude Amulet
This one can only be found post-game, and is near where you find the last Lindwyrm, in The Lost Lindwyrms favour.
There is a runic idol to the west of the chest hidden among some rubble. You need to blow them up at the same time with your spear.
East of the chest, one is hidden behind a geyser that you need to freeze in order to hit. The last is opposite the Mystic Gateway.
Nornir Chest 3 – Midgard’s Bravery
This is another post-game chest that can be found at Sverd Sands. The first idol you need to hit is near the high point south of the chest.

On the way to The Forge with Freya, there is a Nornir Chest in the wine cellar. The first torch is to the left of the chest, and can be lit with sigil arrows and your blades.
The second is opposite the chest. The final one is in the corridor here, hidden behind wooden crates in an archway.
Nornir Chest 2 – Horn of Blood Mead
You will need the spear for this chest. There is a wooden totem opposite you need to throw your spear into.
The next totem is on a rock to the southeast. The final one is next to a cart dangling from the wooden walkway near the train tracks.
The next one can be seen from the same spot, on a rock to the southeast.
The final one is back towards the train tracks, next to the cart that’s dangling from the wooden walkway.
Nornir Chests God of War Ragnarök: The Strond
Nornir Chest 1 – Idunn Apple
This chest is found while looking for Groa’s Shrine, south of the Mystical Gateway. Go through the crack, and drop down on the left to find it.
The first lantern is on the edge of a cliff to your left. The second is past the overlook south of the chest.
The last one is back on the main path. Go south and you’ll find it on your left. Drop down when you see another check to find the lantern.
Nornir Chest 2 – Horn of Blood Mead
The next chest is at the bottom of a grand staircase hidden deep within the Temple of Light.
To the right of the chest, fire a sonic arrow at the debris to clear a path, and head back to the chest.
Looking at the chest, you will see two bells to the left, and one on the right. Throw your axe at the twilight stone on the right and recall it quickly to hit all three.
Nornir Chest 3 – Idunn Apple
Once you have the spear, head to the Mystical Gateway and walk towards The Temple of Light.
There is a chest on the way, and a wall you need to destroy with your spear. The first idol is here, which you can pierce with your spear.
Head back through the wall to find the second, and the third is to the right of it. Blow up all three at once to open the chest.
Nornir Chests God of War Ragnarök: The Barrens
Nornir Chest 1 – Idunn Apple
Trigger the Secret of the Sands favour, by talking to Sindri after you first enter The Canyons.
This grants you access to the sled, to make travel easier. Finish the quest, to clear the storms from The Barrens.
There are some caves to the east of The Canyons, known as The Below, which is where you’ll find this chest.
Unlock the shortcut above the chest on the other side of a locked gate, so that you can access it easily.
The first bell is by the window near the gate. The second is opposite the chest. The final bell is on the left of the corridor, through the gate.
Nornir Chest 2 – Horn of Blood Mead
On the west side of The Barrens, is a chest hidden inside a structure covered in dark elf roots.
Throw your axe at the glowing points to clear this away. There is a torch by the entrance, and one behind the building.
The final torch is on the roof, and you can light it by hitting the exploding jar next to it.
Nornir Chests God of War Ragnarök: Forbidden Sands
Nornir Chest 1 – Horn of Blood Mead
This chest is on the south side of the Forbidden Sands. The first torch is next to the chest.
For the other two, you have to lift the fallen pillar so you can go back to the main area.
The second is north of the Rocky outcrop here, you’ll need to fire a lot of sigil arrows in order to light it.
The last is to the east of the large archway. This one also requires sigil arrows in order to light it.
Nornir Chest 2 – Crafting materials
Squeeze through the gap in the wall underneath the library to the north. Clear the tendrils around the chest by bouncing your axe off the twilight stone.
The first torch is next to the campfire on the north side. Lighting the campfire will light the torch.
The remaining torches are to the south. One is low, and the other is hidden behind a wall.
Light the bottom torch by creating a line of sigils to the campfire. Then create a line of large sigils to connect both torches.
Fire a sonic arrow at the wall to reveal the top torch, then fire another sigil to light them both.
This one is quite tricky and has to be done quickly, so it may take a few attempts.
Nornir Chests God of War Ragnarök: Southern Wilds
Nornir Chest 1 – Idunn Apple
This chest can be found while you are travelling with Brok and Freya.
The first pillar is on a ridge to the west of the chest. Turn it until it shows the first symbol on the chest.
To the east is the second pillar. Burn the vines away with your blades before turning it to match the second symbol.
On the path to the southeast, there will be a pillar above you. Light up the vines on the rocks to your right to clear this one before turning it..
Nornir Chest 2 – Horn of Blood Mead
As you are completing The Reckoning, you will come across a broken bridge, this is where the chest is.
Once the crane is in position so you can grapple over the gap, pull the bucket to the right to light the first torch.
Turn the crane so you can return to the start point and pull the bucket towards you to light the second.
Go to the other side of the bridge to light the final torch and open the chest.
Nornir Chest 3 – Idunn Apple
The next chest is at Goddess Falls to the right of the secret entrance where you find Freyr’s personal favour.
It can be found at the top of the falls. The first lantern is on a ridge to the south of the chest.
Stand as close as you can, and fire three sigil arrows to cover the lantern and the rocks close by.
The next is between the chest and this lantern high up to the northwest. Fire three arrows connecting the top and bottom rock.
The final lantern is north of the chest. Again make a line of sigils from the rock leading up to it.
Nornir Chest 4 – Idunn Apple
This one can be found at Cliffside Ruins near Brok’s shop. One of the pillars is across the water, so throw your axe until it matches the first symbol.
The next is halfway up the chain near the ghost. Climb on one of the platforms nearby to reach it.
The final pillar is in the west corner to the right of the chest. It’s hidden behind the cliff and covered in vines.
Line up your sigils and move closer to burn the vines away before rotating it.

This chest can be found in a cave east of Goddess Falls called the Veiled Passage.
The three bells are hung on the wall on the opposite side of the river. Fire a sigil arrow, and grab a fire bomb to clear the vines.

The first torch is on the way to the chest. Once at the top take a left to find the second torch.
The last torch is back down the way you came hidden behind some icicles. Line up some sigils in order to reach it.
Nornir Chest 2 – Horn of Blood Mead
After you clean up the Kol Raider camp, you can find a chest deep in the cave here.
The first torch is to the left, and can be lit once you clear the nearby brambles with a fire bomb.
Next, a torch is hidden behind some golden ore to the north. A fire bomb can also clean this away.
The last torch is hidden east of the chasm to the south. Line up your sigils top to bottom, and throw a fire bomb to light it.
Nornir Chest 3 – Idunn Apple
Near The Oarsmen, there is a chest hidden underground. Climb up to the opposite side on the stairs, and climb the chain.
Drop down next to the area where the chest is, and pull open the wooden doors with your blades.
Use the large chain here to reveal a staircase. A Fjoturlund Vault Key Half is near a statue here, and you can use a sonic arrow to clear the debris, so you can see the main room.
Open the gate to return to the chest. The first bell is to the northwest. The second to the south, and the third where the debris used to be.
Nornir Chest 4 – Horn of Blood Mead
This chest is close to the large vault door. Pull the shield to the left with your blades to reveal the first torch, and fire some sigils to light it.
Climb up the shield on the left side, to find the second torch. Below this is a doorway blocked by debris. There is a jar you can blow up behind the pillar with careful use of sigils, that will clear this up.
Drag the pillar to the left, and pull the shield to the right. Freeze the gears, and head through the door under the shield, and break the connector by the door to let Freya through.
Then you can light the torch inside this room to complete the puzzle.
Nornir Chests God of War Ragnarök: The Crater
Nornir Chest 1 – Horn of Blood Mead
On the east side of The Crater you will find a zipline. To the right of this is the first torch.
Create a line of sigils to an area close by, then hop on the platform above it to light it.
Take the zipline down, and the chest can be found in a dark passageway. The last torch is to the right, and can be lit with a series of arrows.
Turn around to find the final torch. This can also be lit by lining up your sigils.
Nornir Chest 2 – Idunn Apple
This chest is to the west of Brok’s shop in The Crater. Two of the bells are either side of the chest, and the third is high above the chest on the back of a rock.
Go right to left to ring the bells quickly.
Nornir Chest 3 – Horn of Blood Mead
This chest is inside a revenant camp at the west of The Crater. Freeze the poison totem, and open the door to clear out the enemies.
The first seal is on a rock to the west. The next is inside a tree to the east. The final one is behind the tree behind the chest.
Use your spear to break the last one and avoid getting poisoned.
Nornir Chest 4 – Horn of Blood Mead
This one can be found in The Jungle after completing an optional late-game quest. It’s close to the Mystic Gateway to the south.
The first pillar is to the right of the chest, so turn it to match the first symbol.
Go to the east side of the Sun and Moon Altar, and the pillar will be above you. Burn away the vines and rotate it.
Grapple up to a ledge nearby and look at the top of the altar to find the final pillar.
Nornir Chest 5 – Idunn Apple
This chest can be found after you complete the Casualties of War: The Hourglass favour.
Turn in the quest, and follow the climbing route to reach an area with the chest below it.
The first idol is to the north, the second is far south, and the last is on top of the pillar to the west.
Spear them, and blow them up simultaneously to open this chest.
Nornir Chests God of War Ragnarök: Muspelheim
Nornir Chest 1 – Horn of Blood Mead
You’ll need the Muspelheim Seed to reach this one. It’s behind a rock on the right as you walk through the area. Detonate the rock with your spear to see it.
Two torches can be found opposite the chest, so create a line of sigils left to right. Go to the left of the sigils and ignite them with your blades.
The final torch is up and to the right of the chest, and can be reached with your blades.
