DEVELOPER FromSoftware has officially confirmed that a new Elden Ring DLC expansion is currently in development.
The company revealed that the upcoming expansion will be called Shadow of the Erdtree, but its release date is yet to be announced.
The announcement key art for the upcoming Elden Ring expansion shows a dying Erdtree in the background.
In the foreground, we see a blonde maiden riding through a golden field with ghostly gravestones all around her.
FromSoftware teased the new expansion in a tweet showcasing artwork for the upcoming content.
Shadow of the Erdtree’s announcement artwork shows the ubiquitous golden tree we saw in the base game, but now it has apparently lost its shine.
In the foreground, we see a blond-haired woman riding Torrent, the trusty mount you travel on in the base game.
She seems headed for the dying tree as she traverses a golden field full of ghostly shadows of gravestones.
No details about the new expansion beyond this first image of the dying Erdtree have been shared yet.
Fans have already started speculating about what the new DLC’s story and content might be.
No matter what happened to The Lands Beyond and the Erdtree, we are sure to expect another challenging experience filled with formidable boss fights.
Shadow of the Erdtree’s announcement comes just three days after Elden Ring’s first anniversary.
The game released on February 25, 2022, to rave reviews and has since sold more than 20 million copies.
This new expansion will follow the release of the Colosseums multiplayer DLC for Elden Ring, which unlocked three arenas in the game, where players can take part in team battles and PvP duels.

The upcoming DLC is expected to be a primarily single-player experience that continues Elden Ring’s story with much more new content than what we got from the multiplayer update.
