Call of Duty Vanguard campaign LOCKED for some players – here’s how to fix

CALL of Duty: Vanguard launched last week but some players are finding themselves locked out of the campaign.

The snafu is down to the game modes being split up to combat the Call of Duty series’ notoriously large file sizes.

Call of Duty: Vanguard’s installation process is locking gamers out of the campaign

How to fix locked Call of Duty: Vanguard campaign from console dashboard

Call of Duty: Vanguard has been split into the base game, which is the multiplayer portion, while the campaign appears as add-ons.

This can easily be confused for DLC but they’re necessary downloads if you want to play the campaign.

These campaign add-ons appear as ‘Campaign 1’ and ‘Campaign 2’ and total around 17GB.

To check whether they’ve been installed, highlight the game on your console dashboard and hit the start button.

Select ‘Manage Game Content’ and you’ll be able to see the campaign add-ons, their file size, and whether or not they’re installed.

If they’ve not been installed, you can kick off the process from here.

How to fix locked Call of Duty: Vanguard campaign in-game

If you boot up Call of Duty: Vanguard and the campaign is greyed out and locked, here’s how to fix it.

Highlight the locked campaign and you’ll see a ‘Start Install’ option at the bottom of the screen.

Hit the corresponding button on your console controller and you’ll see a progress bar indicating how far along the install is.

Once the bar is full, the campaign option on the menu will unlock.

Call of Duty: Vanguard campaign won’t install

If you’re still having issues, it’s possible a couple of things have happened to interfere with the install.

The first one is that you don’t have enough space on your hard drive.

As per Activision, this is how much free space you need for each platform:

  • PS5:
    • 64.13 GB Download
    • 89.84 GB Required Space
  • PS4:
    • 54.65 GB Download
    • 93.12 GB Required Space
  • Xbox Series X|S:
    • 61 GB Download
    • 61 GB Required Space
  • Xbox One:
    • 56.6 GB Download
    • 56.6 GB Required Space

So check your download menu and make sure that it hasn’t come to a grinding halt because there’s not enough space available.

The second issue is that your internet connection may be on the fritz, which will also pause your download.

So hop into the download menu to check the status and manually kick it back into gear.
