Modern Warfare 2 came out around 12 years ago, and is one of the most iconic entries in the franchise.
A remastered version of its campaign mode already exists, but fans have been clamouring for a multiplayer remake too.
Now rumours of a remastered MW2 Multiplayer mode are ramping up.
One leaker named @CallofDutyHope said Activision took down a leak about MW2 Multiplayer Remastered using copyright law.
And that the remastered game would launch this year instead of another upcoming Call of Duty game rumoured as “Vanguard”.
“Looks like Activision DMCA’d a post about MW2 Multiplayer Remastered being the COD2021 release instead of Vanguard,” they wrote.
“And they will spin it as a big COD event leading into MWII 2022.
“Warzone will get content with it. Not sure if it’s confirmed to be DMCA’d but looks that way.”
Of course, Activision hasn’t confirmed any such plans.
And even if the “leak” is true, Activision could shift its plans in the coming weeks and months.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 came out way back in 2009, and was an instant hit.
It landed as a direct sequel to the wildly popular Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare – and continued the storyline.
The game follows special forces and US Army Rangers as they hunt down for Russian Ultranationalist leader Vladimir Makarov.
It won a number of awards, and received widespread critical acclaim from game reviewers.
In March 2020, Activision released a remastered version of the game’s campaign for PS4 – followed by an Xbox and PC release in April.
This only included the official Campaign mode, and not the Multiplayer or Spec Ops modes.
