Best free games on Steam in 2023

IF you have a gaming PC or a Steam Deck, then you’ll want a fantastic library of games to go with it.

However, not all Steam games are cheap, and we often don’t have the patience to wait until one of Steam’s big seasonal sales.

Best free games on Steam in 2023
Marvel Snap was a breakout game of last year.

But that’s okay because there’s a huge number of free games on Steam that you can play right now.

Here’s the best free games you can play on Steam in 2023.

Free Steam games: Dota 2

Dota 2 might have its tenth anniversary this year, but it remains one of the most-played games on Steam.

It features intense 5v5 hero battles, with complicated, in-depth gameplay.

Dota 2 isn’t particularly beginner friendly, but it’s perfect for players who didn’t find League of Legends engaging enough.

Even better, you don’t need to purchase or unlock a single character. All 124 are available right from the start.

Free Steam games: Team Fortress 2

This is a classic game developed by Valve itself, and its cartoon aesthetic and childish sense of humour are timeless.

Choose one of nine different classes, and jump into one of TF2’s variety of game modes.

Each class has a completely different way to play, making TF2 one of the most replayable games ever.

Oh and there are almost 900 hats you can collect and wear. What’s not to love.

Free Steam Games: Lost Ark

Lost Ark is like playing Diablo, if Diablo was set in an anime-style fantasy world.

It’s an MMO, but it plays more like an action RPG with its fun-to-use combat skills.

It still has the scale, story and community of your standard MMO though, giving you the best of both worlds.

Lost Ark has a huge player base, so new content continues to be added over time.

Free Steam games: Marvel Snap

If deck-building card games are more your style, then Marvel Snap is one not to miss.

Created by Ben Brode, the man behind Hearthstone, Marvel Snap was popular with players right from launch.

What’s unique about this one is that each match is over in three rounds, making it easy to pick up and play.

There are a huge variety of options for great decks featuring your favourite Marvel superheroes and villains.

Halo Infinite

Fans have had issues with how slow 343 Industries is producing new content, but Halo Infinite is still one of the best free-to-play shooters.

It features familiar weapons and vehicles from the series that you can use in online multiplayer combat.

The Forge also means that players can create their own custom maps, and there are plenty of excellent ones to try out.

If you’re bored of Warzone 2.0, then this is a great option to try out.
