THE ending to upcoming Bayonetta 3 changes one big aspect of the Umbra Witch that fans are furious about.
This article contains a mild plot spoiler about Bayonetta 3. Readers are advised to continue only if they do not mind reading spoilers.
Bayonetta 3 launches in just two days.
Bayonetta 3 releases exclusively for Nintendo Switch on October 28, but reviews are already out.
It has reviewed exceptionally well, scoring a 89/100 on review aggregate site Metacritic.
This places it in the top five Nintendo Switch games released this year.
However, critics weren’t pleased about every aspect of the upcoming threequel.
In the first two Bayonetta games, the titular witch has an exceptionally close relationship with another witch called Jeanne.
They meet and fight together in the original game, but their relationship grows much closer in the sequel.
Here, Bayonetta and Jeanne form a team and spend all their free time together.
When Jeanne is taken to the underworld, Bayonetta literally travels to the ends of the Earth in order to save her.
There are several touching moments between Jeanne and Bayonetta in the games, which led fans to believe that they are in a romantic relationship.
Throughout both games, Bayonetta consistently spurns the advances of another character Luca, which fans also took as confirmation of her relationship with Jeanne.
While the games never explicitly state the relationship, or that Bayonetta is queer, she is commonly referred to as a “bicon” — bisexual icon — by fans.
However, some of the people reviewing Bayonetta 3 have revealed that the ending of Bayonetta 3 features a plot twist fans consider character assassination.
At the end of the story, Bayonetta apparently ends up in a heterosexual relationship with a man.
While we’re not sure about the details, such as whether she explicitly states she’s straight, fans are still disappointed that Bayonetta and Jeanne were just friends after all.
The closeness of their relationship seemed to go far beyond what would be considered a regular friendship.
To find out the full story, we’ll have to wait a few more days until the game releases.
