UBISOFT Makes Major Changes to Boost Sales
UBISOFT recently launched big-name games, including Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and Star Wars Outlaws, both of which received critical acclaim. However, sales figures did not meet expectations. This led to significant changes for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows game.
Consumer-Friendly Changes
Shadows, initially set for release in November 2024, was delayed until February 2025, accompanied by various upgrades. Notably, Ubisoft decided to release their PC games not only on Ubisoft Connect but also on Steam. The removal of the Season Pass and Early Access features aims to create a fairer gaming experience for all players.
Collector’s Edition Price Drop
As part of the changes, the price of the Collector’s Edition of Shadows has been reduced from $280 to $230, reflecting the removal of certain bonuses and goodies. This $50 price drop ensures that all players can enjoy the game simultaneously.
Industry Example
UBISOFT's shift towards more consumer-friendly practices signifies a positive step in the gaming industry. By focusing on improving game structures rather than solely blaming developers for poor sales, the company aims to set an example for the industry as a whole.
Changing Gaming Landscape
As the gaming industry experiences layoffs and restructuring, companies like UBISOFT are adapting their strategies to continue producing quality games. These changes in business practices are essential for the industry's evolution and the satisfaction of players.
