Casa, a self-custody platform for cryptocurrencies, has announced the launch of a new feature for its Ethereum (ETH) vaults that will provide users with increased privacy when transacting.
Enhancing the Ethereum Vaults
In June 2023, Casa expanded its initial Bitcoin (BTC) custody offering by introducing a multisignature Ethereum self-custody vault. This allowed users to securely manage their ETH holdings with up to five private keys.
To further strengthen privacy for its ETH users, Casa has now introduced a relay mechanism that enables transactions through an ETH Pay Wallet.
Introducing the ETH Pay Wallet
Previously, Casa facilitated interactions between users' ETH vaults and the Ethereum blockchain through its in-house Casa Relay. However, this function made users' Ethereum addresses publicly visible through blockchain scanning tools.
The new solution utilizes the ETH Pay Wallet, an alternative single-signature wallet that acts as a relay for transactions from the vault. Casa CEO Nick Neuman explains that gas fees and transactions sent from the ETH Pay Wallet will not be associated with Casa on-chain.
Neuman also clarifies that the ETH Pay Wallet does not provide anonymity like obfuscation tools commonly found in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. All on-chain activities will be viewable, but the connection to Casa will be removed.
The Trade-Off
The use of the ETH Pay Wallet requires additional steps compared to the Casa Relay. Users are also responsible for covering gas fees with their Pay Wallet. However, the added privacy is especially beneficial for users who wish to avoid connecting their on-chain ETH addresses to Casa.
According to Neuman, this new feature was developed proactively to offer enhanced on-chain privacy to advanced members, while still providing the convenience of the Casa Relay for other users.
By launching this Ethereum vault relay service, Casa demonstrates its commitment to prioritizing user privacy and security in the cryptocurrency space.
