Layer-one blockchain Sui Network has announced a new feature that makes it easier for users to sign up for decentralized applications (DApps) without the need for an external crypto wallet or seed phrase. The Sui Foundation introduced zkLogin, a Zero Knowledge login feature, which allows users to log in to Sui-powered apps using their existing Google, Facebook, or Twitch login details. This move aims to remove a major hurdle in bringing blockchain-based applications to mainstream users, according to Greg Siourounis, the managing director of the Sui Foundation.

Addressing the pain points of onboarding

Onboarding has been a significant challenge for the blockchain industry, with users struggling with various usability issues. These pain points include the need to sign transactions, manage seed phrases, and provide complex information to use certain DApps. Adeniyi Abiodun, the co-founder and CPO of Mysten Labs, highlighted this concern, stating that many individuals would benefit from blockchain technologies but are deterred by the complexities of web3 wallets and seed phrases.

The advantages of zkLogin

The zkLogin feature offered by Sui Network allows users to experience the privacy and ownership benefits of blockchain-based applications without compromising on security. Zero knowledge proof technology enables users to prove the truth of a certain assertion without revealing any additional information. This feature opens up opportunities for a broader audience to access and utilize DApps.

Other initiatives in Web3 onboarding

Sui Foundation is not the only player working towards wider adoption of Web3. DYOR, a cryptocurrency exchange, is developing a social media-like application to simplify interaction with the decentralized finance (DeFi) market, addressing the complexity usually associated with these markets. Additionally, Moxy, a new Web3 gaming company, is onboarding gamers through an esports platform that integrates blockchain technology. By allowing players to compete against each other and bet with cryptocurrency, Moxy aims to engage users in the Web3 world. Another notable development in onboarding is the rise of Telegram trading bots, such as Unibot and BananaGun, which facilitate trading and airdrop hunting directly within the Telegram application.
