Rumors Debunked: No Listing Found on DTCC Website

Contrary to swirling rumors on social media, ARK Invest's spot Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded fund (ETF) does not appear to be listed on the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation's (DTCC) website. Several high-profile crypto accounts on Twitter claimed that ARK Invest and 21 Shares' joint spot Bitcoin ETF had been listed on the DTCC's site, but screenshots shared did not show the correct ticker for the ETF.

Correct Ticker Revealed in Amended Filing

The most recent amended filing for Ark's spot Bitcoin ETF from October 11 reveals that the fund will trade using the ticker "ARKB." However, as of October 25, the DTCC website's section displaying all current ETF listings does not show any listing under the ARKB ticker. The ticker "ARKA" actually refers to the ARK 21Shares Active Bitcoin Futures ETF, which is a yet-to-be-approved fund offering exposure to Bitcoin futures contracts.

Overhyped iShares Listing News

Similar to the ARK Invest rumors, the recent news about BlackRock's iShares spot Bitcoin ETF (IBTC) being listed on the DTCC website was also overhyped. A DTCC spokesperson clarified that IBTC had actually been listed on the website since August as part of the standard practice of adding securities to the NSCC security eligibility file in preparation for the launch of a new ETF to the market. The spokesperson emphasized that the listing does not indicate any outcome for outstanding regulatory or other approval processes.

No Rally Effect for ARK Invest's ETF

The rumors of ARK Invest's ETF listing coincided with a 14% single-day rally for Bitcoin, but it is unclear whether the rally was directly influenced by the rumors. Bloomberg senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas noted that ARK Invest had filed a fourth amendment to its spot Bitcoin ETF application, which appeared to be cosmetic changes to the filing.
