Vaccinated students DON’T have to wear masks to school this fall, CDC says in push for full reopening

THE CDC announced that fully vaccinated students will have the option to go maskless in schools this fall, emphasizing a return to schools fully reopening.

Students who have not yet been vaccinated will have to continue to wear masks when schools reopen later this year.

This rule applies for children ages 12 and older.

This ruling comes after certain states have announced their own mandates.

In Texas, mask mandates ended in public schools under the governor’s order with Miami and Marietta, Georgia following this fall.

School systems around the country have begun announcing full returns to school this fall with all students attending full days five days a week.

The CDC guidance reads, “If localities decide to remove prevention strategies in schools based on local conditions, they should remove them one at a time and monitor closely (with adequate testing) for any increases in COVID-19 cases before removing the next prevention strategy” as well as prioritizing transparency with teachers and parents.
