There is no case for Covid restrictions beyond July 5 – let alone the official freedom date of July 19

Now set us free

THERE is no case for Covid restrictions beyond July 5, let alone the official freedom date of July 19.

Jabs have saved 27,000 UK lives and slashed the death rate to just 0.085 per cent of cases. That’s similar to flu.

Sajid Javid was dead right to say no unlocking date carries zero risk

The Government was waiting for cast-iron proof of the vaccines breaking the link between cases and hospitalisations and deaths.

That verdict is in.

Yes, infections are rising fast.

They may be much higher in three weeks.

But that cannot justify continued curbs if only tiny numbers get seriously ill or die.

It is not Sajid Javid’s fault that on his debut as Health Secretary he could only confirm July 19 remains Freedom Day.

The doom-mongers, no doubt including Matt Hancock, had already persuaded Boris Johnson not to bring it forward.

Mr Javid has different instincts.

He was dead right to say no unlocking date carries zero risk — that we must live with the virus but that curbs must end.

That must mean an end to masks, distancing and farcical rules which see even the double-jabbed self-isolating and kids left heartbroken when a single case in school cancels their sports day.

It falls to Mr Javid to keep his boss from wavering.

To ensure that the PM holds his nerve even as infections mount.

And that the control freaks who would shackle us for months more are thwarted.

Lefties in gutter

JUST watch the shambolic, hate-filled Left fighting in Batley like rats in a sack.

Labour fears by-election defeat to the Tories on Thursday but George Galloway is their real enemy

But their real enemy is George Galloway, the leftie firebrand hoovering up Muslim votes solely to defeat Keir Starmer and install a new Corbyn.

And it has all descended into violence, homophobia and racism . . . as the Tories look on bemused.

Galloway says Starmer is soft on Israel.

Labour leaflets sow division between Pakistanis and Indians

Fake Labour leaflets posted to white homes mock Starmer’s love for woke causes.

Their candidate Kim Leadbeater is the sister of Jo Cox, the MP who before her terrible murder in 2016 told the Commons: “We have far more in common than that which divides us.”

A message, sadly, lost on her own party.

One Moore time

NOTHING is certain but death and taxes, wrote Benjamin Franklin in 1789.

It now also seems certain that in any major footie tournament England will meet Germany after the group stage and go out, probably on penalties.

This evening Harry, Raheem and the Lions must roar like Bobby Moore’s heroes of 1966

That said, we did break this iron law at Wembley in 1966.

Trending In The News may on occasion have mentioned it.

And this evening Harry, Raheem and the Lions must roar like Bobby Moore’s heroes.

No pressure, lads

But if football’s coming home, this is where its journey really starts.

Go out and make history!
