Regeneron Covid antibody drug used to treat Trump is given emergency FDA approval

THE US Food and Drug Administration has approved Regeneron’s coronavirus antibody drug – the same treatment given to President Donald Trump – for emergency use.

President Trump praised the treatment as a “miracle drug” last month after he was given the cocktail to treat his own case of Covid.

The medication is targeted to people with mild cases of Covid – not those who have been hospitalized because of the virus, the FDA said on Saturday.

It works by mimicking the body’s own immune system to prevent people who are infected from becoming gravely ill, according to the Washington Post.

Regeneron’s drug is a combination of two monoclonal antibodies, according to the New York Post.

Days after Trump revealed that he and his wife Melania tested positive for Covid, he called his diagnosis a “blessing from God” and detailed the “unbelievable” effects of Regeneron’s drug.

He described how he “felt good immediately” after taking the medication, prompting share prices for Regeneron Pharmaceuticals to spike shortly after his announcement.
