ED Sheeran has finally bought a mobile after four years without one.
The songwriter, 30, famously did not own a mobile after ditching them in 2017.
He got a basic £59.99 Nokia 3310 so he could assure NHS Test and Trace he was in quarantine after foreign trips.
Ed told a podcast: “I’ve been doing promotion overseas and quarantine afterwards.
“The Government call you but I didn’t have a phone for them to call me on.
“They were really on me. I think they were trying to catch me out.”
Ed followed the five day test release scheme which allows international travellers to finish quarantine on their fifth day if a private PCR test comes back negative.
But NHS staff rang him half an hour after he left the house – leaving him to question whether his movements were being tracked through the location on his phone.
He told pal Jessie Ware on her Table Manners podcast: “I don’t know if they have GPRS tracking but we did a five day test to release thing and on the fifth day I left and then they rung and were like ‘you’ve left your house’.
“So I don’t know whether my neighbours are just ringing up. But I basically got the all-clear on an email just saying ‘you’re ready to go’ so I left and within half an hour they were like ‘why have you left?’.
His new phone is unable to download social media applications – and Ed revealed he doesn’t even know the password for his own TikTok account.
Ed said: “I don’t know the login for my TikTok. People tell me to do this video and then I guess it goes up.”
