REPUBLICAN senator Kelly Loeffler tested positive for coronavirus on November 21, but a second test showed her results were inconclusive the following evening.
Loeffler’s results come after she was seen campaigning for her position in the Senate in Georgia’s upcoming runoff election.
Who is Kelly Loeffler?
Kelly Lynn Loeffler is an American businesswoman and politician serving as the junior United States Senator for Georgia since this year.
The politician stands at 5’9″.
A Republican, Loeffler is a staunch Trump supporter and once said that she doesn’t disagree with anything the president has said or done according to Fox.
Loeffler has even appeared to align herself with Georgia Republican and congressional candidate Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has endorsed QAnon conspiracy theories.
She was sworn into the U.S. Senate in January 2020 after Georgia Governor Brian Kemp appointed her to fill the seat of U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson.
She finished second in the November 3 election, advancing to a runoff with Democrat Raphael Warnock scheduled for January 5, 2021.
Does Kelly Loeffler have Covid?
Loeffler’s campaign recently announced that the senator has tested positive for Covid.
She tested positive for coronavirus on November 20, but subsequently tested negative on November 21 according to campaign spokesperson Stephen Lawson.
“Senator Loeffler took two COVID tests on Friday morning. Her rapid test results were negative and she was cleared to attend Friday’s events,” said Lawson.
“She was informed later in the evening after public events on Friday that her PCR test came back positive, but she was retested Saturday morning after conferring with medical officials and those results came back inconclusive on Saturday evening.”
“She has no symptoms and she will continue to follow CDC guidelines by quarantining until retesting is conclusive and an update will be provided at that time,” Lawson concluded.
When did she get Coronavirus?
Loeffler was seen maskless with Vice President Mike Pence and Senator David Perdue during campaign events most of November 21.
The group rode on a bus from the airport to two campaign events for the Georgia senate runoff elections in January.
Loeffler is reportedly contacting those she had direct contact with as further test results come back.
Some experts say that rapid-results tests tend to be less accurate than PCR tests, which take longer for results.
What has she said about it?
Loeffler has yet to personally speak out about her diagnosis.
“Senator Loeffler is in my thoughts. I pray that her test results come back negative and that she is back on the campaign trail soon. Blessings,” said Rev. Raphael Warnock, her Democratic opponent in the upcoming runoff election.
Loeffler, who is the richest member of Congress, has faced criticism for holding maskless indoor and outdoor rallies on her campaign trail.
