BRITISH families hoping to holiday abroad next year are reportedly facing a 15 per cent hike in prices because of a surge in bookings.
Some flights for next Easter are said to be about a fifth more expensive than 2019 pre-pandemic levels.
Travel firms reported a flood of bookings for 2022 with holiday giant Tui recording a 120 per cent surge in holidays sold for next year.
It has taken 1.3 million bookings from the UK and Europe as a whole, with 744,000 breaks for 2022 snapped up since May.
The Daily Mirror reports Tui chief executive Fritz Joussen admitted “prices are higher than 2019,” with rises also down to customers booking longer and more pricey holidays.
Many Brits have holidayed in the UK this year because of Covid travel rules, self-isolating and costly PCR testing meant families have holidayed in the UK this year.
But a travel industry source confirmed to the Mirror: “Prices for next year are higher than in 2019.
They said the average rise could be 15 per cent.
But complaints service Resolver spokesman Martyn James said 15 per cent could be “optimistic”.
However, Emma Coulthurst, expert at the website Travelsupermarket, said there were no signs yet that package holiday prices were going up.
She added prices might rise at some point if more people were willing to travel next year.
