Many types of spots can appear on your face, from acne to single pimples. Most are non-dangerous, but with the face being the most exposed part of the body and particularly vulnerable to harmful UV rays, it’s crucial to recognize signs of something more sinister.
1. Asymmetry
Asymmetry is a primary sign that a spot on your face could be cancerous, according to Dr. Susan Mayou, consultant dermatologist at the Cadogan Clinic.
2. Irregular Borders
A spot with misshapen borders could be a telltale sign of cancer, says Dr. Mayou.
3. Colour Variation
If there’s color variation within the spot, it could be a cause for concern, according to Dr. Mayou.
4. Larger than 6mm in Diameter
A spot larger than 6mm in diameter could be a sign of skin cancer, warns Dr. Mayou.
5. Bleeding
Bleeding from a spot on your face should raise alarm bells according to Dr. Mayou.
Skin cancer can develop anywhere on the face but is commonly found on the nose, ears, forehead, high cheekbone area, and around the eyes. It’s essential to regularly examine your face and body for any new or unusual moles, spots, or changes in existing ones. If you notice anything suspicious, contact a dermatologist immediately.
