Understanding the issue
If you're experiencing pins and needles in your fingers at night, it may be a sign of nerve-related problems. Our resident specialist and NHS GP, Dr Zoe Williams, explains that this sensation usually indicates issues with the nerves supplying the hand.
Potential causes
Depending on which fingers are affected, different nerves may be involved. Carpal tunnel syndrome can affect the thumb, index, and middle fingers on the palm side, while the radial nerve may be to blame if symptoms are on the back of the hand. If the little finger and ring finger are affected, the ulnar nerve could be under pressure.
Connection to health conditions
While treatment for prostate cancer and taking alendronic acid tablets may not directly cause this symptom, other factors like low blood calcium levels, nerve damage from medications, vitamin deficiencies, diabetes, and alcohol use could contribute to the issue.
