WOKE teachers want more drag queens telling stories in class.
Members of the National Education Union say the move should be part of further LGBT+ schemes in schools.
Members of the striking union say the move should be part of further LGBT+ schemes in schools
A motion to be voted on today by the striking union states: “Initiatives like Drag Queen Story Time and inviting LGBT+ authors into schools can help challenge the heteronormative culture and curriculum that dominates education.”
An amendment also seeks to condemn PM Rishi Sunak’s decision to thwart Scotland’s gender reforms.
It adds: “This has encouraged the far-right to organise further attacks on Drag Queen Story Time and has created an atmosphere where hate crime can thrive.”
Education Secretary Gillian Keegan has commissioned a review of sex education amid reports pupils at one school were told there are 72 genders.
Separate guidance is being drawn up for how schools should respond to pupils questioning their gender.
But some NEU teachers insist there “are often no spaces in schools where students can discuss, question or explore their own feelings about sexuality and gender”.
MPs accused the union of playing politics and told them to focus on the teaching.
Tory MP Brendan Clarke-Smith, a former head, said: “Parents’ priority is making sure their kids get a decent education.
“But once again the NEU has revealed they care more about wasting money on pointless identity politics than keeping schools open.
“This latest stunt just goes to show why the PM and Education Secretary were right to commit to a review of the guidance provided to schools.”
