The Penistone and Stocksbridge MP also risked a major row as she argued “cultural Marxism” is “destroying children’s souls”.

The far-right conspiracy theory has been criticised for having anti-Jewish connotations.

It argues intellectuals are trying to indoctrinate the public with communist views to destroy free speech and democracy.

Ms Cates said: “When culture, schools and universities openly teach that our country is racist, our heroes are villains, humanity is killing the Earth, you are what you desire, diversity is theology, boundaries are tyranny and self-restraint is oppression, is it any wonder that mental health conditions, self-harm and suicide, and epidemic levels of anxiety and confusion characterise the emerging generation?

“We must end the indoctrination of our children with destructive and narcissistic ideologies, instead protecting childhood, training children in the timeless virtues and teaching them how to love our country.”

Responding to the comment, senior Jewish Labour MP Margaret Hodge told the Jewish News: ”It shows what a long journey we still have to travel, when MPs such as this can make such thoughtless contributions which are indeed offensive to Jewish people.”

Over the past few months Ms Cates has led the Tory MP charge against sex education in schools.

The MP recently hit out at teachers for telling pupils there are 72 genders, and teaching them about different sex positions from a young age.

The Department for Education has since launched an independent review into how sex and relationships are taught.

Across the next three days socially Conservative Tory MPs will gather at the QEII Centre for the UK’s first National Conservatism Conference.

At the event this morning ex-minister Jacob Rees-Mogg attacked Rishi Sunak for introducing free childcare for kids aged nine months to three years old.

He argued the policy is anti-Conservative, anti-family and “hostile to the building blocks of society”.

This afternoon Home Secretary Suella Braverman will address the conference.

She’ll argue that tackling the unsustainable number of migrants should not be seen as racist.
