Trade Sec Kemi Badenoch: Majority of Brits Back Post-Brexit Trade Deals

A recent poll has revealed that the majority of the British public support the government's post-Brexit trade deals with countries outside the EU. Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch has hailed the survey results as a major boost for British businesses.

Public Support for Deals Outside EU

The Whitehall survey shows that 67% of the public support the trade deals with countries outside the EU. This is seen as a positive sign for the government's international trade agenda.

Brexit Benefits for British Businesses

Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch highlighted the benefits of exiting Brussels, stating that it has opened up new opportunities for British businesses. With deals with Australia, New Zealand, and the fast-growing economies of the CPTPP, the trade strategy is expected to bring brilliant new opportunities for businesses and consumers.

Positive Outlook on Trade

According to the survey, two-thirds of the public are positive about the impact of trade on the UK. This is a 5 percentage point increase compared to last year's results.

Success in Securing Deals

Since the UK's exit from the EU, the government has secured trade deals with 73 countries, including the EU. These countries accounted for £1.1 trillion of trade in 2022.

Economic Boost and Increased Wages

Recent deals with Australia and New Zealand are expected to boost the UK economy by £2.3 billion and £800 million respectively. They are also projected to increase wages by £900 million and £200 million.

Mega Deal with CPTPP

The UK has also recently signed a £12 trillion deal with the CPTPP trade block. Public support for joining this group has reached its highest level yet, with the polling showing a rise from 46% to 53%.

Supporting Businesses in Utilizing Trade Agreements

The Director General of The Institute of Export & International Trade, Marco Forgione, has emphasized the importance of supporting businesses in making use of these new trade agreements. He stated that international trade stimulates economic growth, creates jobs, lowers prices for consumers, and promotes innovation and technological advancement.
