Kemi Badenoch's Immigration Pledge

Kemi Badenoch has vowed to do "whatever it takes" to get a grip on immigration levels. The Tory leadership contender revealed that she blocked a trade deal that would have led to a surge in migration during a closed-door hustings for Conservative MPs.

Stand Against High Immigration

Badenoch emphasized that legal immigration levels are too high and unfair. She stated, "I will do what it takes to bring it down. I refused to let the Indian trade deal through when Liz Truss demanded it, including student visas with dependants."

Challenges from Rivals

Despite her strong stance, Badenoch faced pressure at the event regarding her refusal to commit to leaving the European Court of Human Rights or implementing an annual migration cap, both of which were promised by her rival Robert Jenrick.

Rival's Defense and Apology

Robert Jenrick defended his previous immigration approach, highlighting the need for a tone that welcomes the best and brightest. Meanwhile, candidate Tom Tugendhat apologized for his party's past actions, acknowledging the need for improvement.
