THE Tories have been given an electoral boost after receiving a cash donation from West Ham.
Party coffers swelled by £9,000 after the Premier League club donated to the Conservatives for the first time in six years.
Baroness Karren Brady, appointed a Tory peer in 2014, is the vice chair of West Ham
The sum was accepted last year and was revealed in the latest Electoral Commission’s register, published yesterday.
Businesswoman Baroness Karren Brady, appointed a Tory peer in 2014, is on the board at the top-flight club and holds the position of vice chair.
It was understood the donation relates to a dinner at the Carlton Club.
Yesterday a Labour source said: “Forget blowing bubbles — West Ham’s board are blowing their fans’ cash by handing it to the Tories.
“Punters paying £50 for a ticket will be baffled.”
The donation comes after the club faced controversy for donating £12,500 back in 2016.
That sparked anger as it was revealed taxpayers had paid £272million towards the conversion of the London 2012 Olympics stadium, after it became the club’s new home — while West Ham footed only £15million of the bill.
A Conservative Party spokesperson said of the latest sum: “All donations are properly declared to the Electoral Commission and comply fully with Electoral Commission rules.
“The profit margins of event tickets are reported as a donation accordingly.”
A club spokesperson said: “As a private company West Ham United makes donations to a number of organisations and charities.
“Our donations often relate, as is the case here, to attending events of interest to our key sponsors and partners.”
