Survey reveals public lack trust in police to investigate burglaries

Nearly half of Brits skeptical about police response to home burglaries

A recent survey by Savanta has uncovered alarming statistics, with almost half of the British public expressing doubt that the police would investigate if their home were burgled. The survey found that only 50% of adults had faith in officers responding to a burglary report, while 46% held a negative view.

Concerns across different crime scenarios

The lack of confidence extended beyond home burglaries, with 49% of respondents doubting police response to car thefts, and a shocking 41% believing that officers would fail to investigate street assaults. The survey also revealed that 8% of individuals had refrained from calling 999 in the past two years, with a quarter citing concerns about police response time as the reason for their decision.

MPs call for urgent action to restore public trust

In response to the survey findings, MPs have criticized the "crisis in confidence" and called on the government to take immediate steps to rebuild public trust in law enforcement. Lib Dem Home Affairs spokeswoman Lisa Smart described the results as scandalous, emphasizing the need for a return to community policing and increased police presence in neighborhoods to ensure public safety.
