Keir Starmer's ambitious plan

Sir Keir Starmer has vowed to back the construction of 1.5 million homes over the next five years, with at least half of them being affordable options. The Labour leader's goal is to prioritize building homes on brownfield land and areas with poor-quality "greyfield" greenbelt spaces.

Five golden rules for housing developments

As part of his plan, Starmer has outlined "five golden rules" for housing developments, which include ensuring that construction on undamaged green spaces is accompanied by improvements to existing natural areas. He also emphasized the importance of boosting public services and infrastructure, such as schools and health centers, alongside new housing projects.

Labour's commitment to addressing the housing emergency

Sir Keir Starmer criticized the current housing situation under the Tories, stating that it has left millions unable to plan for their futures or start families. He highlighted the need to prioritize disused grey belt land for development, with strict conditions in place to ensure that any new construction delivers affordable homes, infrastructure improvements, and enhanced green spaces.

Deputy leader Angela Rayner's support

Deputy leader Angela Rayner echoed Starmer's sentiments, emphasizing Labour's plan for smarter Green Belt release and strong regulations to tackle the housing emergency. She stressed that building on the Grey Belt would be accompanied by the promise of more schools, healthcare facilities, and accessible green spaces for families.
