Historic Moment

Sir Keir Starmer made history as the first British Prime Minister to observe Armistice Day in France since Winston Churchill. Standing alongside President Emmanuel Macron, they paid tribute to the fallen soldiers in a solemn service.

Commemoration

This significant event, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Churchill's salute to President Charles de Gaulle, took place in Paris. Together, Sir Keir and President Macron laid a wreath and relit the flame at the Arc de Triomphe.

Nationwide Remembrance

Back in the UK, the nation paused for two minutes of silence at 11am. From train stations to schools and fire stations, people across the country marked the moment when the armistice of World War One began.

Remembering the Fallen

Events were held in various cities including Bristol, Cambridge, Nottingham, Liverpool, and Dover. In Glasgow, veterans were led through the station by a piper, while in Wales, county hall was illuminated in honor of the occasion.
