Sir Geoffrey Cox paid nearly £400,000 by scandal-hit hedge fund boss

EMBATTLED Sir Geoffrey Cox was paid nearly £400,000 by a hedge fund boss at the centre of an international tax scandal.

The Tory MP — who made almost £900,000 in the last year as a barrister — legally represented Sanjay Shah.

Mr Shah’s  Dubai-based Solo Group firm introduced a client to a broker which was  this week fined £642,000.

UK  watchdog the FCA  penalised Sunrise Brokers for failing to ensure it was not being used for fraudulent trading.

Mr Shah’s   spokesman  said: “The FCA  found no wrongdoing and under political pressure they  fined a couple of brokers for  misdemeanours.”
