Shock Poll Reveals Labour Voters Want Tougher Immigration Stance Than Sir Keir Starmer

Labour Voters Call for Reduced Immigration

Recent polling has unveiled that Labour voters perceive themselves as more hardline on immigration than Sir Keir Starmer, the Labour party leader. When asked to position themselves on a spectrum ranging from significantly reducing to significantly increasing immigration, 57% of Labour supporters indicated a desire for reduced immigration levels.

Pressure Mounts on Sir Keir Starmer

On average, Labour voters rated themselves at 37 out of 100 on the immigration spectrum, which is to the right of Sir Keir Starmer's position at 43 out of 100. This polling outcome intensifies the pressure on Starmer to adopt a tougher stance on immigration, especially as recent figures suggest a decline in immigration arrivals from record highs.

Shift Towards Nigel Farage's Reform Party

The poll also highlighted that a quarter of Labour voters would consider voting for Nigel Farage's Reform Party, indicating a potential shift in voter preferences based on immigration policies.

Labour's Immigration Plans

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has pledged to deport more than 14,000 illegal immigrants in the next six months, surpassing deportation numbers seen since 2018. Labour's new strategies include deploying additional National Crime Agency operatives to combat people-smuggling gangs and expanding bed capacity at immigration removal centers in Oxford and Gosport, Hampshire.
