Expulsion of Russian Spy
A Russian spy will be kicked out of the UK in response to what the Home Secretary has described as a pattern of "malign activity" across Europe by Moscow. James Cleverly declared the Russian defence attache as "an undeclared military intelligence officer" who will be expelled from the country.
Announcement of Measures
James Cleverly also announced the closure of several Russian diplomatic properties across the UK. This decision comes after a British man was charged with alleged hostile state activity benefiting Russia, including involvement in an arson attack on a Ukrainian-linked commercial property in London.
Response to Russian Government
Expecting a backlash, Mr. Cleverly warned of a wave of "conspiracy theories" and "hysteria" from the Russian Government due to the clampdown. However, he stated firmly, "We will not be taken for fools by Putin's bots, trolls, and lackeys."
Clear Message to Russia
In a resolute response, Mr. Cleverly emphasized, "Our message to Russia is clear: stop this illegal war, withdraw your troops from Ukraine, and cease this malign activity." The UK's actions aim to demonstrate that such escalations will not be tolerated.
