The PM, whose daughters are ten and 12, said: “I have two young girls and I worry about that, and that’s why we’ve actually recently funded a new hit squad that’s going to go in and tackle all these shops that shouldn’t be selling vapes to children, which is already illegal.

“We’re looking at how we can strengthen the rules on how they are marketed, promoted, what they look like.

“Because it looks like they are targeted at kids, which is ridiculous, right?

“I don’t want my kids to be seduced by any of these things.”

NHS stats show nine per cent of 11 to 15-year-old children smoked an e-cig in 2021.

Last month, the PM announced several measures to curb the rise in under-age vaping.

Health Minister Neil O’Brien has launched the illicit vapes enforcement squad, backed by £3million of new funding.

Mr Sunak today said his two daughters, 10 and 12, are not exposed to negative headlines about him.

He told Alison Hammond and Craig Doyle: “They’re not massively reading the news. They’re still little, which is good.

“And so they’re broadly fine with it and that they’ve been seeing me do these jobs over the last few years.

“So they’re a little bit used to that.

“But fundamentally, you know, I’m dad and they’re more focused on whether I’m helping them with whatever they want me to do, whether it’s, you know, playing top trumps or doing whatever Lego or you know, taking them to whatever class.”
