Rishi Sunak, the UK Chancellor, is now dealing with not one but two crucial by-elections, as MP Chris Pincher faces the possibility of being expelled from the House of Commons. This development comes as the Tories officially seek to replace Nadine Dorries, with a showdown set for mid-October in Mid Bedfordshire.
Appeal Lost: Chris Pincher Faces Suspension
Chris Pincher, who was accused of groping men in an upscale club last year, lost his appeal against the recommended punishment of an eight-week suspension from the House of Commons. This decision has triggered a recall petition in Tamworth.
The House of Commons Committee on Standards had originally suggested the eight-week suspension. Despite Pincher's argument that the punishment was disproportionate, a sub-panel dismissed his appeal and upheld the Committee's recommendation.
Nadine Dorries' Formal Departure
Meanwhile, Nadine Dorries, who launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister, has officially resigned as an MP. In a lengthy 1,787-word letter to the PM, Dorries accused Boris Johnson of stirring up controversy and leaving her home vulnerable to threats, prompting police visits. Her decision to step down was first revealed in June after not receiving a peerage in Johnson's resignation honors list.
