The PM told him they needed to ensure Ukraine was in “the strongest possible position to build on battlefield successes”.

As the two leaders discussed developments in Russia’s invasion, Mr Sunak paid tribute to Ukrainian troops fighting in embattled Bakhmut.
They had been forced into “orderly withdrawals” from the Donetsk city after being blitzed, the MoD revealed.
Mr Zelensky, who visited the UK in February, tweeted: “Had a phone talk with (UK) Prime Minister.
“Discussed situation at front, our defence needs, increased support & intl events.
“I thanked him for condemning the inhumane execution of a (Ukrainian) soldier.
“Together we must stop the aggressor & put an end to terror!”
No10 said: “The leaders discussed efforts to accelerate military support.
“The leaders discussed the latest situation on the battlefield and the Prime Minister paid tribute to the efforts of the Ukrainian forces in Bakhmut.
“They agreed to stay in close touch.”
