Lord David Frost — who quit the Cabinet in December — led Tories in penning a letter to the PM

Lord David Frost — who quit the Cabinet in December — led Tories in penning a letter to the PM.

He said: “If our economy is to boom after Brexit, British industry needs a competitive and reliable source of energy which we hold in our own hands.

“Shale gas production achieves all this and more.

“So let’s reverse the moratorium on shale gas and let a British energy renaissance begin.”

The letter, organised by the Net Zero Scrutiny Group, says fracking will “allow us to combat the cost of living crisis and improve our energy security.”

But government sources say the ban isn’t up for review and that fracking causes quakes.

Environment minister Zac Goldsmith said fracking is “unpopular” with the public.

Last week fracking firm Cuadrilla said it will permanently abandon Britain’s two shale gas sites.
