The Cabinet Office probe will find that the guidelines were broken as she didn’t inform her bosses having first spoken to the Labour leader last October.

She was given the all-clear by an appointments watchdog to start work for Sir Keir from the autumn as part of their plans to transition into government.

They said there was “no evidence” that her decision-making or ability to remain impartial was impaired during her civil service role.

She left her job in March and was told to wait six months before taking up the position over a potential risk to perceived impartiality.

Gray led the investigation into lockdown-breaking parties in Downing Street during the pandemic.
