Over 200 Arrests for Terror-Related Offences in the UK Last Year

Key Highlights:

More than 200 people were arrested for terrorist-related offences in the UK last year, with 42 of them being under the age of 17.

65% of those arrested were linked to Islamist extremist views, while 26% held extreme right-wing ideologies.

Since records began in 2001, this is the highest number of arrests in the under-17 age bracket.

Demographics and Statistics:

46% of those arrested under the Terrorism Act were White, while 34% were Asian, according to official stats.

Britons have accounted for 62.9% of all terrorism-related arrests in the UK since 2001, as per Home Office figures.

Currently, there are 244 prisoners serving time in UK prisons for terrorist offences.

Overall, 219 arrests were made last year, resulting in 61 charges, 98 individuals being bailed, and 46 released without charge.
