Met Police issue fines for lockdown-breaking Christmas party at Tory HQ

Investigation launched into Covid rule breaches

The Metropolitan Police, commonly known as Scotland Yard, have handed out 24 fines for a Christmas party held at Conservative Headquarters that violated lockdown restrictions. The investigation was initiated after a video surfaced showing staff working on Shaun Bailey's London Mayoral campaign at the event.

24 fixed penalty notices issued

In a statement, the police confirmed that they had concluded one of their investigations into potential breaches of Covid regulations from July 2023. The investigation was reopened after new evidence emerged regarding an event that took place on Matthew Parker Street on 14 December 2020. After carefully assessing the new evidence, the Met made 24 referrals for fixed penalty notices (FPNs) to the ACRO Criminal Records Office for violations of Covid-19 regulations.

Further investigation ongoing

The second investigation concerns another gathering that occurred in Parliament at an event on 8 December 2020. This investigation is still in progress, and the police are yet to reach a conclusion.
