MP under fire for insinuating Jewish people incited anti-Muslim riots
A LABOUR MP sparked fury yesterday after appearing to suggest that Jewish people incited anti-Muslim riots in Britain.
Controversial tweet stirs up anger
On X, Clive Lewis shared an article from the Guardian about Israeli strikes in Gaza with the caption: "The link between the daily inhumanity being meted out to Palestinians and rising Islamophobia in the UK, are not unconnected."
Call for immediate suspension
Campaigners accused Mr Lewis of making a "highly irresponsible" comment at a time of heightened racial tensions and called for his immediate suspension.
Strong reactions from anti-antisemitism groups
Alex Hearn, co-director at Labour Against Antisemitism, said: "We call for his immediate suspension and for the whip to be removed while he is investigated."
Backlash from Jewish Labour Movement
A Jewish Labour Movement source slammed Mr Lewis for failing to "engage his brain" and criticized his comments as irresponsible and harmful.
