Public opinion
Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch is calling on companies to prioritize their job over woke political agendas. According to a recent poll by think-tank Policy Exchange, half of the respondents feel that businesses have become too involved in political activism.
Recruitment based on merit
Badenoch emphasizes the importance of recruiting based on merit rather than focusing on diversity quotas. The survey revealed that 75% of people believe companies should prioritize hiring the best candidate for the job, regardless of race or gender.
Unpopular diversity initiatives
The survey also found that diversity initiatives, such as wearing pronoun badges, are unpopular among employees. 43% of respondents said they would be less likely to continue working for a company that mandates such initiatives.
Avoiding political stances
When it comes to businesses taking political stances on issues like Palestine and transgender rights, about half of the respondents indicated it would not impact their purchasing decisions. The public values meritocracy and customer service over controversial political positions.
