Kamala Harris breaks fundraising record
Kamala Harris is edging closer to becoming the new Democratic nominee after raising a staggering $81 million in donations in just 24 hours. The current US Vice President received this unprecedented amount after President Joe Biden endorsed her following his exit from the election race.
Wide support and endorsements
Harris, who will also inherit around $91 million in leftover campaign funds from her joint ticket with Biden, has garnered immense support from party members and influential figures. Notable endorsements include former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Governors Gavin Newsom and Gretchen Whitmer, and over 888,000 donors who contributed to her campaign.
Clear path to nomination
With backing from at least 2,214 Democratic delegates and various key figures, Harris appears to have a clear path to securing the nomination. Despite the technically open selection process after Biden's withdrawal, Harris has emerged as a frontrunner with significant support across the party.
Plans for the future
Harris, aiming to earn and win the nomination, is reportedly considering a male candidate from the midwestern US as her vice-presidential pick to diversify her ticket. If elected, she would make history as the first woman and person of South Asian descent to hold the presidency.
