An Emotional Pledge
In an emotional statement yesterday, Justice Secretary Alex Chalk promised to do everything within his power to prevent the release of a wife killer.
A Tragic Case
Joanna Simpson, 46, was violently attacked by Robert Brown in 2010 but Brown was acquitted of murder, instead admitting to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Putting Safety First
Speaking to the BBC, Chalk expressed his determination to keep the public safe and ensure justice in this case, saying "we will do everything we can to keep her safe."
A Pending Release
Brown, a British Airways pilot, is due to be released on licence in November after serving 13 years of a 26-year sentence. He will not face a Parole Board.
A Plea from Loved Ones
Hetti Barkworth-Nanton, a close friend of Joanna, was encouraged by Chalk's commitment to public safety but emphasized that true safety can only be achieved by keeping Brown behind bars. Joanna's mother, Diana Parkes, echoed this sentiment, calling for urgent action to block his release.
A Prayer for Common Sense
Joanna's family and friends are hopeful that common sense will prevail and prevent the early release of her killer.
