Illegal migrants to be moved back onto Bibby Stockholm barge after legionella outbreak

Migrants informed at town hall meeting

During a town hall meeting in Portland, Dorset today, it was announced that 38 migrants would be relocated back onto the Bibby Stockholm accommodation barge next week. This decision comes after the vessel was evacuated due to an outbreak of legionella bacteria.

All clear given for habitation

Trending In The News has learned that the Bibby Stockholm barge has now been deemed safe for habitation again. Legionella bacteria, which can cause a serious lung infection known as Legionnaires' disease, was found on the vessel.

Potential dangers of legionella bacteria

Legionnaires' disease can be fatal in severe cases, and is typically contracted by inhaling small droplets of contaminated water. The bacteria cannot be transmitted from person to person, but can exist in small amounts in water sources such as ponds and rivers. If it finds a suitable environment, such as an air conditioning system, it can quickly multiply.
