THE pothole which went viral after PM Rishi Sunak was snapped beside it has finally been filled in – to the amusement of locals.
Mr Sunak, the constituency MP and regional mayor were all photographed next to the suspension-buster in Darlington, Co Durham, leading to wags asking: “How many Tories does it take to fix a pothole?”

The pothole has finally been filled in – to the amusement of locals
Two weeks on from the snap Trending In The News told yesterday how the hole was still there, but Darlington Council has now fixed it.
Transport worker Alastair Cole, 60, who lives on the same road, said: “At least they’re doing something with my council tax.
“It was comical really. The day before Rishi came there were six council vans and 15 or 20 workers.
“They cleaned all the paths and the bins and they were here a few hours.
“I woke up the next morning and there was Rishi Sunak outside my house. I realised that was why all the workers had been here.
“The pothole itself has been there for the last two years.”
Resident Sandra Appleton, 67, added: “It had been like that for ages.
“It just seems because the Prime Minister has been that’s why it has been filled in.
“I was watching him inspect the hole on the television. It seemed a bit pathetic to me.”
Stephen Gamble, 45, added: “The picture was quite amusing because they are bending down and it looks as if they’re saying ‘wow’.”
The state of the nation’s roads has become a key battleground ahead of next month’s local elections with both Labour and Tories blaming each other for spread of potholes.
